It was great meeting the enthusiastic women & men from rural India who were so eager to learn & accept the concept of early detection. Starting from Breast Self Exam cards, to preventative measures about lifestyle, tobacco etc was discussed. We had 0% knowledge about Breast screening but post session, we had 100% assurance from the women that they will perform BSE and attend doctor immediately if a lump or other symptoms are detected. Thank you Dr Shirtaz Laskar for connecting me to Mrs Sanalembi Devi Sinha from Purva Bharati Educational Trust, who helped organize a camp in Bhorakhai, in Cachar, Assam. Thanks to Mrs.Sanalembi for her initiative and I was amazed by the outstanding work done by Mrs. Sanalembi towards the community with respect to girl child education and other vital areas

The session was highly interactive with lot of interactions later & my discussions & requesting to quit tobacco, paan, supari, zaarda, other carcinogenic ingredients used in Paan was taken positively. Northeast India is hugely influenced by use of tobacco (paan-zarda-supari-lime etc) and this is one of the major causes of high percentage of oral and other types of Cancer in Assam & other states of NE India. Thank you Ms. Vandana Thousen, Ms. Sanjita Bathari, Mr. Padamlungbe & the community head for organizing the session on behalf of Rotary Club of Haflong Hills & giving me the opportunity to spread awareness on early detection and prevention of Cancer

Tamil Nadu-Rural Cuddalore, ASEEFA Foundation,

I had one of the most fulfilling sessions... in a village ~4-5 hours from Chennai called Cuddalore, Tsunami affected area. The women & men loved the Breast self exam cards in Tamil and I was amazed to see how each person in the group repeated after me, the steps to Breast self exam . They promised they will open up-break the taboo, if they feel a lump. They were not aware of Breast self examination or a lump could be cancer. Mrs. Nisha Subramaniam, played the most important role by beautifully translating each segment in Tamil. We covered early detection, survivor stories, breast cancer in men along with women, family history & preventative management & concept of love & affection for cancer patients & caregivers along with positive attitude. Thanks for the collaboration and I am planning to train few volunteers so that they can now cover the areas and spread the word about Breast cancer-early screening process. A big shout out to the artisans of Aseefa Foundation for their beautiful handicrafts, made with utmost perfection & creativity... really touched my heart. Sincerely thankful to Mrs. Vidya Prakash for connecting me to Mrs. Nisha Subramaniam, Director of Aseefa Foudation and sincerely grateful to Mrs. Nisha, Mr. Goutham & Ms. Shivaranjani R for all your help in organizing the event. Hats off to all the great work you all are doing!

Motivational Interview with Mrs. Neerja Malik, Breast Cancer Survivor, Chennai,

Mrs. Neerja Malik beat Breast Cancer twice, and she calls herself "Conqueror" not "Survivor". She was first diagnosed in 1998, and again in 2004. Both times, she defeated Cancer with her positive attitude and will power. Mrs. Malik is the author of the book "I Inspire". Honored to meet such an amazing person! Mrs. Neerja Malik's pearls of advice for every person combating cancer: "1. Cancer is only a word, nothing less and nothing more. 2. When you are diagnosed with cancer, don’t think it is the all and end of existence. It is simply a short detour from your destination. 3. Laughter is the best medicine. 4. Cherish ten treasures of life - Love, Fun & Laughter, God, Faith, Miracle, Death, Acceptance, Attitude of Gratitude, Abundance and Living in the Now“.
