Odisha Hospitals collaboration for BCH adopted Buratal village

June 26, 2023: After a series of groundwork, Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) adopted a very interior Buratal village, predominantly Adivasi residents, located in Patrapur block of Ganjam district of Odisha. After adoption, it is our responsibility, so we make sure that we collaborate with the local village hospitals and the city hospitals, so that we have the resources for our patients to get treated as we accompany our patients to the hospitals, taking care end to end. It was my privilege to meet Dr Roja Ramani (thank you Dr Palanki Satya Dattatreya for connecting us), from M.K.C.G Medical College in Brahmapur, and we discussed BCH collaboration with M.K.C.G hospital ). We also collaborated with the Patrapur Block Primary Health Centre and also Primary health center at Jarada Ganjam, so that we bring our suspicious cases to the immediate local hospitals.

So thankul to Akhaya Mohanty, whose help and guidance helped me to penetrate the interiors of Odisha and adopt a very isolated village. Thank you Shradhanjally Mohanty, Prasanta Mohanty, Santosh Mohanty, for opening your home for breakfast after my long journey, so kind of you.

BCH team takes care end to end, from providing transport, to purchasing medicines, and diagnostic tests, which are not covered under the government schemes. BCH team assists the patients by taking them to the hospital, helping with generating income certificates, Government health cards, hospital registration, patient communication with the doctor, accompanying them in the full diagnosis process, buying necessary medicines, and dropping them home with follow-ups & counseling. BCH provides treatment aid to the poor and underprivileged. We take accountability for each case, helping them from beginning to end.

With heartfelt gratitude,

BCH adopted Kumari Village, Nadia

Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) adopted Kumari Village (Nadia district), since November 2022, an extremely interior, India-Bangladesh border, for door-to-door Cancer screening-awareness, Diagnosis, Treatment Management Aid and Counselling, taking care end-to-end. We thank the BSF team for the immense support and collaboration.

In addition to our online zoom meetings or WhatsApp calls with the Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) Nadia Team, I do my field visits as follow-ups to understand the challenges our teams and villagers might be facing. BCH local team made great efforts to organize the meeting, where I reiterated the message of Cancer screening again, in addition to explaining through the prototype breast model, and making the villagers examine the model so that it becomes easier to identify lumps while they perform their own Breast self-exam. We adopted Kumari Village in November 2022, and I was delighted to meet the enthusiastic villagers and our dedicated team again on 25 June 2023.

I am extremely thankful to Sreema Mahila Samity, for the continued help and support. A huge shout-out to Our BCH field workers Rimpa Biswas, Sima Basak, Ratna Basak, who are local residents of Huda & Kumari villages. Sabarna Saraswati who is the Field Project lead, directly supervises our Field workers for accuracy and transparency. The project is also supervised by Akhaya Mohanty. We take the suspicious cases to the Krishnanagar District Hospital, Duttapulia local hospital or other local hospitals providing free/subsidized treatment. After the preliminary screening, as needed, we will take the patients to Kolkata for further diagnosis and treatment if required or find other hospitals to treat the case locally. We received assurance from the local hospital doctor and nurse, that our patients will receive the subsidized treatment once we process the needed income health cards.

A sincere thanks to Akhaya Mohanty, for helping throughout the Kolkata & Nadia outreach. Thank you St. Johns Medical College Hospital Based Cancer Registry for giving me the Breast Model.
