BCH Villages Adoption in India (2020): 15th February – September: We completed door to door cancer screening in Bantarapur & Bhorakhai area. October onwards, we move to SIX more villages.. following up on the suspicious cases in all the Eight Villages under our Supervision.
Villages adopted for Breast and Oral Cancer Screening, teaching signs & symptoms of Cervical Cancer and other types of Cancer, Treatment & Management, Palliative Care & Epidemiological Research Study. We maintain database of each member & we take accountability of each patient.
Impact & Success:
1. Bhorakhai: 484 Families screened (1679 individuals
Bantarapur: 640 families screened (3513 individuals).
2. In both the villages, the population was ~100% NOT AWARE on Cancer signs & symptoms before BCH penetrated. After our door to door screening awareness, everyone is alert of Breast & Oral Self screening examination and have become conscious. Most of the people link their diseases to spiritual or religious myths. Therefore, most of the time for any disease villagers prefer going to local faith healers. In this process they lose their valuable time for proper treatment, ultimately leading to death.
Each & every family of Bhorakhai & Bantarapur have now become aware about symptoms of cancer especially, Breast, Oral and Cervical and BCH team has become the bridge to connect with healthcare system, taking accountability of each patient, their treatment, transport, care, counselling & management.
3. Anti-TOBACCO CAMPAIGN: 1983 (56%) individuals consume tobacco in Bantarapur and 1414 individual (84%) in Bhorakhai consume tobacco. BCH team’s anti-tobacco campaign is helping and the villagers are trying to reduce or eliminate.
4. Suspicious cases: Bhorakhai: 34 oral cancer, 2 Breast Cancer & 18 patients complained of chest pain.
Bantarapur : 6 breast cancer, 31 oral cancer and 5 cervical cancer. We are successful in taking some of the suspicious cases to Cachar Cancer Hospital (CCH) but due to fear of Covid19 infection, many patients are objecting to be taken to the hospital but our team is counseling and trying our best to convince the suspicious cases for further diagnostic screenings at CCH.
5. Covid -19 Response: Bhorakhai: BCH team provided Food relief, masks, disinfectants to the victims of lockdown and we maintained database of 222 families to provide food replenishment.
Bantarapur: BCH helped implement and execute health and safety measures via Covid-19 awareness, mask & sanitizer distribution, enforcing guidelines and helping to prevent covid-19 spread in market places with local vendors and public gatherings.
