Breast Cancer screening workshop in nadupara village, khatra block, Bankura, WB

Nadupara, Khatra, Bankura, West Bengal: Breast Cancer Early Detection Awareness and Screening on 6th April 2024. I was so touched by the enthusiasm and the response of the women and men during the outreach, with their willingness to stay and learn more. I am immensely thankful to Dr. Animita Saha, for connecting me to Mr. Asit Chowdhury, and the Agradut Pally Unnayan Samity (APUS), without each of you, this outreach wouldn’t have been possible. It was my privilege meeting Mr. Umashankar Mukherjee-Secretary -Agradut, and Mr. Asit Chowdhury in person along with the Agradut team: Mr. Pradip Mondal, Mr. Pradip Murmu, Ms. Archana Murmu, Ms. Nandita Mahato, Ms. Suchitra Mahato, Ms. Shilpa Murmu, and Mr. Bappa Kundu. I thank Agradut and Vivekananda Study and Philanthropic Center, for organizing the outreach. On behalf of Breast Cancer Hub (BCH). I conducted the awareness session, emphasizing on Early detection and prevention of cancer, explained the Breast self-exam through the prototype breast model, and made the villagers examine the model themselves so that it becomes easier to identify lumps while they examine their breasts at home. We also gave each family a Breast Self Exam Card for Her and Him in the Bengali language made by BCH, as we explained to each woman, how to understand the look and feel of the breast to detect any abnormality. I performed a Clinical Breast Exam for those women as needed, for those women who came forward after the workshop. In addition, also handed out multi-colored awareness keyrings with blue representing Breast Cancer in Men, Pink for Women, and Purple for all cancers and all genders, as a reminder to perform BSE every month, along with bookmarks.

My heartfelt thanks to Mr. Umashankar and Agradut for arranging my accommodation and the logistics for the Bankura outreach.

Thank you, Sandeep Roy (my husband) for sponsoring my travel to India. Thank you Ms.Julie Daugherty for sponsoring my travel from Indore to Kolkata.
