Anganwadi is a type of rural child care centre in India. They were started by the Indian government in 1975 as part of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program to combat child hunger and malnutrition. They help in providing basic education for children and enrolling women to undertake antenatal care. They are also responsible for immunization of children and pregnant women.
Extremely thankful to the Anganwadi workers and helpers from Borjalanga village & Silchar outskirt rural areas for coming in-spite of the difficult transport, distance & challenging hot weather. I had enormous rounds of interactions with Anganwadi workers and how they can collectively come together to support Breast Cancer awareness & explain Breast self examination since the Anganwadi workers have direct outreach to the rural sectors – mothers who bring their children to them, women undertaking antenatal care, and other women from various divisions. They have a great opportunity to take the message forward (I will guide them through & through) to the rural India.
The talk was recorded so that with new Anganwadi workers, the women are enriched about breast health and how they can save themselves by Breast self exam.
My heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Kanchan Bhaya (Senior Process Consultant, TechnipFMC), for always being my strength and support; most importantly, for believing in the cause and coming forward to spread the word by collaborating.
Most notably, I am so thankful to Mr. Subir Roy, Planning and Development Officer, Nibedita Nari Sangstha, for always supporting the cause, understanding the importance of Breast Cancer awareness and always sharing the important aspects of Breast Cancer Hub posts via his social media. Thank you Mr. Roy, for your immense support and collaboration!
To note, many women came forward with issues about Breast health, they themselves suffering or their families going through the same but not opening up or visiting doctors - they were not aware that lumps, discharges were signs & may be Breast cancer & could cause death. An immensely rewarding session, with many women speaking up about their concerns after my presentation.
