Vandana Thousen was born on 4th February 1974 at Haflong , the land of mesmerising natural beauty nestled in Southern Assam.She did her schooling from St Agnes Convent School, Haflong and then graduated with Honours from English Department of the prestigious  Cotton College in 1996. She completed her MA from University of Pune from English Department  specialising in South Asian, African and  Caribbean literature and then joined Gurucharan College at Silchar as Faculty of English Department where she is currently a senior faculty. She is also pursuing her Phd from Sociology department of Assam University on Construction of Dimasa identity through the narratives. She has a penchant for writing and has published a book titled History of the Dimasas and other writings of Sonaram Thaosen besides contributing research articles to reputed peer reviewed journals.

Mrs Thousen is also actively associated with other agencies where she pursues her passion for community service.She was associated with the NCC where she served with honour as ANO commisioned in rank of lieutenant from 2000 to 2006 after graduating from Women Officer's Training School at Gwalior.

She is also Alumnus of Rotary Foundation; a former GSE member to RI dist 3700 South Korea from RI dist 3240 and is currently an active Rotarian who served RC Greenland as chairperson of women empowerment cell and communications in 2017 and then as Governor's Special Representative formed Rotary Club of Haflong Hills in 2018.

Vandana is mother to Parikshit and Prashant. Being primary care giver for Parikshit who has special needs is what has cemented her commitment to work towards the upliftment of the underprivileged as she firmly believes that providing opportunity to those denied is the way forward towards building  better lives.

 

Mission statement:
A personal loss of to close family members to breast cancer let to realization that early intervention coupled with correct information regarding the condition can save in numerable lives. Wishes to spread awareness to stop stigma of talking about breast cancer due to cultural conditioning
