Yenepoya Cancer Center, Mangalore
Yenepoya Cancer Center, Mangalore, April 02, 2024: Thank you, Dr M. Vijay Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya, Deemed to be University, for inviting me to share my experiences on the grassroots sustainable work executed by Breast Cancer Hub in the diverse sectors of India, especially in the villages. We look forward to the collaboration, as BCH serves the underprivileged areas and Yenepoya is a great resource for our needy patients.
I was amazed to learn about the impactful initiatives led by Dr. M. Vijayakumar who has spearheaded the Cancer Awareness Outreach Program (CAOP) across three districts, dedicated to the early detection of oral, breast, and cervical cancers through NSS Volunteers and program officers, Aangahawadi and ASHA workers. Dr Vijaykumar also established a comprehensive cancer center - Zulekha Yenepoya Institute of Oncology supported by TATA Trusts, supporting patients coming from underprivileged sectors with Free or subsidized treatment, truly incredible!
Thank you, Dr Ashwini S Shetty, Director, Directorate Extension and Outreach Activities, for accompanying me throughout on Campus and explaining every detail of the activities run by different departments. I thank Dr. Vijaykumar, Dr Shetty, and all the Faculty members for taking the time and It was my honor to meet the teams from: Zulekha Yenepoya Institute of Oncology, Cancer Awareness Outreach program, Yenepoya Technology of Incubator, Department of Community Medicine, and the Research Center. I was so impressed with the External Breast Prosthesis developed by Dr Vijay Kumar and Dr Rohan Thomas’s team. Equally, I was also amazed with the Radiation Oncology Dept, as Dr Dinesh Makuny, walked me through the advanced imaging technologies offered by the team, at a subsidized rate with access to the underprivileged populace. Thank you Dr Boney Paul for showing me the premises along with Dr Ashwini. Wonderful to learn about the great work of the Yenepoya Teams!
My thanks to Dr Vijaykumar and Dr Ashwini, for arranging the accommodation and logistics within Mangalore, truly appreciate it. Thank you, Sandeep Roy (my husband) for sponsoring my travel to India. 100% of my work and BCH services are FREE and All donations are driven towards our Mission.
With heartfelt gratitude,
