Meeting with villagers - In one of 17 BCH adopted villages, Cachar, Assam

March 17, 2024 - one of the 17 bch adopted villages

I had a Group Meeting with villagers on 17th March, 2024, to receive feedback on our work from the village residents, as Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) adopted 17 villages in Cachar, Assam, since February 2020, for Door-to-door cancer screening, treatment management, support, and counseling. BCH screened more than 20,000 villagers till Nov 2023, and more in progress, taking care of end-to-end. We also discussed screening protocols and patient cases.

During our door-to-door screening, we take the suspicious cases to Cachar Cancer Hospital, or Silchar Medical College, for further screening, diagnosis, and treatment. The hospitals provide treatment at subsidized rates under the government-aided schemes & we are thankful for their services but the remaining treatment expenses, BCH covers. The villagers are daily wage earners living a hand-to-mouth existence without any savings. On many occasions, there is no one in the family to accompany the patient to the hospital, eventually delaying or skipping treatment. BCH team takes care end to end, starting from providing transport, purchasing medicines, diagnostic tests, that are not covered under the government schemes. BCH team assists the patients by taking them to the hospital, helping with income certificate, AAA card, hospital registration, patient communication with the doctor, accompanying them in the full diagnosis process, providing treatment aid, dropping them home with follow-ups & counseling.

The 17 Villages BCH adopted since February 2020: Sundari Part-II, Sundari Part-III , Sundari Part-IV, Boalihaor, Sentcatherine , Sundari-I, Bidruhipar, Boali Haor, Bhaurikhandi-I , Bhaurikhandi-II, Dharamkhal Division area of Silcoorie Tea Estate, Bhorakhai divisions of Silcoorie Tea Eastate, Durgakona Division , Silcoorie Division of Silcoorie Tea Estate, Kochudorom- I, Kochudorom- IV.

We select our BCH team who are the residents of the respective villages we adopt. Very proud of our great team: Sanalembi Devi (Project coordinator), Field workers: Sapna Pashi, Ranjitha Singha, Sangita Bagdi, and Sarita Singha (data entry).

100% of BCH’s services are FREE, and All donations are driven towards our mission (donor’s choice).

We are grateful to the villagers, for trusting us.. Thank you,

Dr Lopamudra Das Roy on behalf of BCH Family
