Mrs. Anamika is motivational, a breast cancer thriver, and always faced challenges with courage and determination. Thank you, Mrs. Anamika, for sharing your incredible life to inspire and encourage other patients, doctors, and the community. We are also privileged to receive Mrs. Anamika’s story from her family (Mrs. Anurekha Barkakoti, Sister-in-law), so beautifully penned

“Reflections from a sister-in-law…

We talk of Bravehearts and iron ladies and wonder how they carry on so resolutely amidst untold adversities and unexpected circumstances. Every time they receive lemons, they make lemonade! Every curve ball thrown at them becomes a win! And my sister-in-law ( Rajuma Bou aka Anamika Choudhury) falls in that category, undoubtedly. I have seen what Bou has gone through in the last three years and more. Her ups and (more) downs. My brother passed away in June 2011, twelve years ago..

Bou has been managing her life single-handedly, in such an admirable way that only she can. A fiercely independent person, efficiently managing a beautiful home with two competent children, a daughter and a son, Bou takes up every daunting task with ease and efficiency all the time embracing everyone in her extended family with much love and care. Bou took it all in her stride and then cancer struck...i won't say ' disaster' because that word is not in Bou's dictionary. She is never to be one to be broken, never to share her lows, although she may be doing it behind closed doors, i don't know. After all, she's human.

In those challenging and difficult times of diagnosis, prognosis, chemotherapy sessions, of losing her hair, radiation and strong medication, she stoically maintained her dignified resolve to fight it with all her will and might. Perhaps her only vision was....'this too shall pass'.

In between Doctor's treatment and chemotherapy sessions and their verdict of her getting cured of the breast cancer, she would bounce back to her normal life only to be told the disease had come back as an ominous visitor in her lungs. Undeterred, she underwent the same cycle of harrowing treatment with so much courage that we were astonished. Amidst all that, Bou got busy planning her son Amarjyoti's wedding in Guwahati with so much detail to the point that she personally went house to house inviting her near and dear ones...Nobody does that these days but Bou wanted to. It was a grand wedding that people talked about for days. Never for once did I see her tired or exhausted. She was and is not to be cowed down with exhaustion...there was never a ' not feeling well day' for her! That's how a fighter she is...does not let negativity break her down. I strongly believe that it is her innate resilience, her untiring endeavor, and her positive mindset that has brought her back to where she always was...an elegant, efficient and brave lady I call my Bou. May God keep her in His care always and I know He will because  I strongly believe that 'God helps those who help themselves'.

She remains my inspiration forever.
