Research Scholar, Breast Cancer Hub
Concord, NC, USA
Srikavya Pasumarthy joined Breast Cancer Hub in August of 2020. She graduated with the highest distinction, summa cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh, obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and minor in Chemistry.
During her undergraduate education, she dedicated herself to uplifting underserved populations by delivering clinical care to these communities both locally, as an emergency medical technician, and abroad, as a global health volunteer.
She is also deeply intrigued by science and spent over 3 years engaging in research. During her time with the Carlson lab at the University of Pittsburgh, she studied the role that zinc plays in fertilization in sexual reproducers and was awarded the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship in order to further understand this topic. Her work helped contribute to the publication “Zinc protection of fertilized eggs is an ancient feature of sexual reproduction in animals”, a paper published with PLOS Biology on which she is a co-author.
Given her passions for science and service, she aims to conjoin these drives in the future to provide medical care to underserved populations, and she hopes to do so as a physician.
Mission Statement: Through Breast Cancer Hub, she aims to use research and data analysis as a platform to encourage individuals from all communities and backgrounds to pursue early screening. Through these efforts, she hopes to help save more lives to breast cancer.
