Macdonald Community: BREAST CANCER SENSITIZATION AND SCREENING CAMP, May 17, 2024
May 2024, Macdonald Community, Sierra Leone: The “One Community per Month Breast Cancer Screening Campaign” is a popular venture and gaining a lot of momentum receiving calls from community residents from various areas to visit their community since the inception of this concept in January 2024 by Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) in partnership with Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation (TPBCF). This dream of mine could be only implemented because of the leadership of Mrs. Cremelda Parkinson Pratt and the great team of Thinking Pink. Our 5th campaign was held at the Macdonald community, executing Early detection Awareness and Screening. On the 16th May, our Nurse, a survivor and outreach officer embarked on a mobile sensitization campaign to prepare the residents for our sensitization outreach the next day at the Macdonald community situated off the peninsular a western rural community.
On 17th May, Our Nurse: Racheal Brewah held educational talks on the importance of early detection and offered demonstrations on how to conduct monthly Breast Self Exam (BSE), and together with Nurse Kadijah, they conducted Clinical Breast Exams. We took the opportunity to introduce the research questionnaire by Breast Cancer Hub in partnership with TPBCF, the purpose of the research is to understand the base of knowledge of the community. A total number of seventy-eight (78) were screened and seven (7) had some form of abnormalities
The screening camp was executed with funds from Breast Cancer Hub and we also selected abnormal cases for their treatment with funds from BCH.
We feel blessed to be able to serve the people of Sierra Leone.
With gratitude,
Dr Lopamudra Das Roy (Founder-President, BCH)
